About Shaquill and Shaquem Griffin

SHAQUEM GRIFFIN

Shaquem Griffin was born just minutes after his twin, Shaquill. Both boys went on to become remarkable athletes in high school and college at the University of Central Florida —and both have played in the NFL after being drafted by the same team —but Shaquem did it all with just one hand.

At birth, Shaquem experienced a rare condition called amniotic band syndrome and his hand ultimately had to be amputated when he was four years old. His family refused to treat him any differently than his brother and his motto has always been “please don’t tell me what I can’t do.” Shaquem made history as the NFL’s first-ever one-handed player. Now he inspires others to overcome adversity and persevere.

Shaquem’s collegiate accomplishments include first-team All-American Athletic Conference linebacker, AAC Defensive Player of the Year, National Champion, Peach Bowl MVP, Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year, and AAC Defensive Player of the Year. After a historic performance at the NFL Combine, he was selected as a linebacker by Seattle, playing for the Seahawks from 2018 – 2020. In 2018, he was the winner of the NFL Game Changer Award. His most memorable on-the-field highlight was sacking Aaron Rodgers during the playoffs in 2020. He signed with the Miami Dolphins for the 2021 season and is now retired from the NFL.

Shaquem enjoys spending time with his family and friends, keeping up with the latest fashion trends and gaming. He is an NFL Legends Community Coordinator, a motivational speaker, and is focused on giving back to the community through the RTH Opportunities Foundation.

SHAQUILL GRIFFIN

Shaquill Griffin was born one minute before his identical twin brother, Shaquem, and has embraced the role of the “older brother” as a coach and mentor. The Griffin brothers have been inseparable ever since.

While in high school Shaquill excelled not only on the athletic field, receiving recognition for his exploits both on the football field and the track, but also in the classroom. Highly recruited coming out of high school, Shaquill chose to attend the University of Central Florida. UCF was the only school that extended an offer to both him and his brother.

Shaquill was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the 3rd Round of the 2017 NFL Draft (90th overall). During his rookie season he quickly climbed the depth chart and became a starter and a member of Seattle’s famed “Legion of Boom”. In 2019, Shaquill established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, helped lead the Seahawks to the playoffs, and was rewarded with his first Pro Bowl selection. Shaquill signed a 1-year contract with the Houston Texans where he currently plays.

Shaquill enjoys hanging out with teammates, family and friends, music, and gaming. He is active in giving back to his community and is excited to supports other through the RTH Opportunities Foundation.
